The big Consumer Electronics Show in Vegas starts today. As always, it’s got a ton of amazing products . . . plus a few very WEIRD ones. Here are the strangest gadgets unveiled so far.
1. A robot vacuum that picks up dirty socks. It’s like a Roomba, but with an arm on top that picks up stuff you tossed on the floor.
A company called Roborock made it. It’s just a prototype, so no word on pricing, but probably north of $1,000. It can pick up small items that weigh less than 11 ounces. (Here’s a video. It’s not great at it.)
2. Electric Rollerblades. You wear the battery around your waist like a belt and control the speed with a remote. The top speed is 18 miles an hour. For $800, you can relive the ‘90s . . . and break a hip without breaking a sweat.
3. An Electric Salt Spoon. It’s been in the works for a while, and went on sale in Japan last year. A weak current of electricity hits your tongue and makes stuff taste saltier than it really is. They’re $125 in Japan. You can’t get them in the U.S. yet.
4. A table with working legs. It’s called the Mi-Mo, and it walks around. The prototype looks like a small side table with a Pixar lamp on top. The idea is it’s an A.I. robot you can talk to, but it also looks like furniture. (???)
5. A stringless guitar. It’s like an adult version of those push-button guitars for little kids. For $500, you can feel like you’re playing guitar, without actually playing guitar.
6. A tiny robot that blows on your drink to cool it down. It’s called the FuFu. It looks like a cat and hangs on the side of your coffee mug. It also works on soup. They’ll go on sale in Japan later this year for around $25.
