An H.R. expert who’s been at it for two decades came up with a list of the top things you should NOT do at your office holiday party this month.
She says even if you’re a model employee, doing any of these things can wreck your reputation and damage your career.
If you can avoid #1 on the list, you’ll have a much better chance of avoiding the rest. Here are the top five.
1. Don’t get hammered. A strategy called “zebra striping” was in the news last week. It’s when you drink, but your next drink has to be something like soda or water. You just can’t have two boozy drinks in a row.
2. Don’t overshare. The vibe might be casual, but remember you’re still at work.
3. Don’t mix business and romance. A.k.a., don’t make out with the person who sits two cubicles down from you.
4. Don’t ignore the dress code. The stakes aren’t as high with that one. But it’s never a good look to show up underdressed.
5. Don’t post without consent. Don’t share photos or videos of other people on social media, unless you know they’re cool with it. That includes footage of co-workers who DO get hammered.
