Grocery retailer Wegmans has announced it is recalling several items over the potential for Salmonella contamination.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced the recall, saying that Wegmans had issued a voluntary recall on its products containing micro greens, sweet pea leaves and cat grass. The impacted items have the potential to carry the bacteria, which can lead to serious and sometimes deadly infections in young children, the elderly or people with weakened immune systems.
Wegmans said that the soil in which the items being recalled were grown in Ithaca, N.Y., has tested positive for Salmonella by its supplier. The company said it has issued the recall in an abundance of caution and no illnesses have been reported.
